POMONA, N.J. — Three Butler County athletes qualified for the USATF Junior Olympics in Sacramento, Calif., at last weekend's Region 2 Championships at Stockton State College.Jordan Geist, a fifth-grader from South Butler, won the discus with a throw of 81 feet, 7½ inches and placed third in the shot put with a toss of 36-3.Butler sophomore Ava Bonetti qualified in the shot put with an effort of 34-¾ and the discus with a 108-3. Younger brother Clinton Bonetti qualified in the shot put with a throw of 30-0.Region 2 consists of the New Jersey, Niagara, Mid-Atlantic and Three Rivers associations. Athletes must place among the top three in their respective age groups to advance.The national meet is July 27 through Aug. 1.
SEWICKLEY — Joe Boros of Treesdale Golf and Country Club carded a 73 Monday at the Sewickley Heights Open to finish in a tie for seventh, three strokes off the pace set by Allegheny Country Club's Roy Vucinich, who won with a 70.Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club, Jody Barnett of Cranberry Highlands Golf Course and John Aubrey Sr. of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred all shot 75s to finish in a tie for 16th.

CANTON, Ohio — ESPN studio host Chris Berman was selected to receive the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award.The award is given annually for "longtime exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football." Berman will receive the award Aug. 6, a day before this year's class of Hall of Famers is inducted.Berman is entering his 25th season as host of ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown," and has anchored the network's NFL draft coverage since 1987. He has worked for ESPN since 1979.
