PALMYRA — The owner of a pyrotechnics company that set off the display where an accident left 11 people wounded said a malfunctioning firework was to blame.

Kimmel Schaefer Jr. said a faulty firework failed to shoot off properly, causing an explosion on the ground that knocked down other fireworks and fired them into the crowd at Sunday's Independence Day celebration in Palmyra.

A teenage boy was the most seriously injured spectator. He underwent surgery Tuesday to apply skin grafts to his legs.

A state police fire marshal said the incident was an accident and no charges will be filed.

YORK — A central Pennsylvania woman convicted of homicide by vehicle in 1990 has pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and vehicular homicide in a 2007 crash.Forty-three-year-old Julianne Fetrow pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges stemming from the November 2007 crash that killed her passenger, 53-year-old Victor Wolf Jr.Fetrow admitted she was drunk when her car struck a tractor-trailer in Thomasville, York County. Under the terms of a plea agreement, Fetrow faces 13 to 30 years in prison when she's sentenced Sept. 20.In 1990, Fetrow lost control of her car while. driving drunk and struck a man who was fishing on a bridge. She pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence and driving under suspension in that case.

MCDONALD — A man jailed on charges he stole donation jars at a Pittsburgh-area library has allegedly told police he needed the money.McDonald police arrested 23-year-old Michael Neese late Tuesday after an anonymous tip. Police said Neese told them he stole the money from the Heritage Library because he was homeless and hungry.Director Connie Bongiorni said at least $350 was taken.

WAYNESBURG — A graduate assistant football coach at Waynesburg University has died after falling ill at a construction site where he also worked.Twenty-five-year-old Mike Czerwien became ill Tuesday afternoon while working in temperatures that topped 90 degrees. He died a short time later at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.School officials said they've received no official notification that his death was heat-related.Czerwien was working on a master's degree in business administration while also serving as an assistant defensive line coach with the team.

ARARAT — A northeastern Pennsylvania bus driver is dead after the bus she was driving collided with one being driven by her husband.Susquehanna County Coroner Anthony Conarton said 72-year-old Ruth Lynady was ejected from the bus she was driving in the crash Tuesday.State police said William Lynady was driving the other bus at the time of the crash. Officials say he was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.Conarton said the buses were driving together to a nearby camp. No passengers were aboard.
