HERMITAGE — The Knoch Knights 11-and-under all-star baseball team won four of five games to place second at the Hermitage Baseball Tournament.

The squad was led by Dominic Bucko (.625 batting average), Mario Valellti (.600), Jackson McKee (.500), Logan Hickey (.471) and Anthony Rini (.454).

SLIPPERY ROCK — Jeff Crouse, a former assistant coach at the University of Idaho, was named assistant women's basketball coach at Slippery Rock University.Crouse, a veteran of more than 30 seasons of coaching, has been out of the profession since 2008.While on the Idaho staff from 2004-08, Crouse helped to develop six players who earned All-Big West Conference and three who earned All-Western Athletic Conference honors.

CHAMPION — John Aubrey Sr. of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred Golf Course tied for seventh place at the Namsco Plastics Industries Seven Springs Open Monday.Aubrey shot a 73, which was two strokes behind Patrick Greer of Long View Golf Center, who needed six holes of sudden-death playoff to beat Roy Vucinich of Allegheny Country Club.Two competitors from Treesdale Golf and Country Club also took part. Doug Sutter tied for 14th with a 74 and Joe Boros tied for 23rd with a 76.

FARMINGTON — Brett Rinker of Slippery Rock shot a 79 Monday and failed to qualify at the Nemacolin Junior Classic K12 Qualifier at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.Evan Notaro of Bath, Pa., won the event with a 69.

PITTSBURGH — Steelers right tackle Willie Colon injured his right Achilles' tendon while working out at the team's practice complex.If the tendon is torn, Colon is likely to require surgery that would end his season.Director of football operations Kevin Colbert said Monday Colon was being evaluated by the team's medical staff.Colon's injury could be a major setback to the Steelers' plans to put a greater emphasis on the run this season.
