LANCASTER — Police said five people were killed and two were injured in a crash Sunday in Lancaster County involving three motorcycles and a van.

Penn Township police said the crash occurred around 5 p.m. on Route 72.

Police Cpl. Rodney King told the Intelligencer Journal-Lancaster New Era that the motorcycles, each carrying a driver and a passenger, crashed into the van. Police were still trying to figure out exactly how it happened.

King said three men and two women on the motorcycles died. He said a third woman on a motorcycle was hospitalized in critical condition, while the driver of the van was hospitalized in fair condition.

The names of the victims had not been released.

Police are still investigating.

NEW CASTLE — A man is dead after he was apparently electrocuted at an industrial site.Police in New Castle said 30-year-old Jonathon Donofrio was found dead Saturday at the New Castle Refractories building.Authorities said Donofrio's girlfriend found him and alerted police. Investigators said the area is marked with no-trespassing and high-voltage signs. Police said a bag containing tools and copper pieces was found at the scene.The investigation continues.

HARRISBURG — State budget negotiators said they continued to work over the weekend on getting an agreement on a spending plan for the fiscal year that begins Thursday.Work on Sunday included a conference call among legislative leaders, staff-level number crunching and a night meeting with administrative staff. But no agreement was reached.A Senate Republican spokesman said it's unlikely a deal will be made by the deadline, and Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell's office said an end today to the bargaining talks is possible but not certain.It's likely that top House and Senate members will meet again today, but there was no word about where or when that might take place.

LANCASTER — Police said two men and an 11-year-old girl teamed up for in a robbery in central Pennsylvania.Lancaster police said they arrested 25-year-old Herbert Moore and the unidentified girl for allegedly robbing a man early Friday morning.Investigators said the girl approached the victim and asked for a cigarette before two other men jumped out and attacked him. Police said the victim was punched in the head and kicked but was able to summon police and give a description of his attackers.Moore is jailed on charges of robbery and corruption of minors. The girl was ordered to the county's juvenile detention center. It was not clear if either had an attorney.Police are looking for the third suspect.
