Oscar C. Moore Jr., 84, of Chicora died of unexpectedly of natural causes at 11:53 p.m. Saturday in Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Chicora, April 23. 1926, the son of the late Oscar C. Moore Sr. and the late Mildred McGarvey Moore.

Mr. Moore was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving his country as a corporal first class from Oct. 5, 1945, to Nov. 25, 1946.

Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Chicora, where he became assistant vice president and manager of Mellon Bank, now Huntington Bank, Chicora, where he worked from 1949 until he retired in 1987.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Chicora, and for many years, he served on the church council and was the church treasurer and church auditor.

He was a member of the Chicora American Legion. He was a former member of the Chicora Rotary Club, where he was a past president and treasurer for many years. He was district treasurer of Rotary for District 728. He was the co-chairman of District 728 for the Rotary International Student Exchange Program as well as being very much involved with the International Student Exchange in the Chicora Rotary Club itself for many years. He also was a member of the board of directors of the Salvation Army and the United Way of Butler County for many years.

Surviving are a son, David Moore and his wife, Toni, of Ross Township, Pittsburgh; his beloved brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Shirley Kepple of Chicora; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He married Esther J. Kepple Moore on Aug. 22, 1950, and she died Sept. 18, 1999.

<B>MOORE</B> — Friends of Oscar C. Moore Jr., who died Saturday, May 22, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Road, Chicora. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. James A Higgins, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Reformed Church Cemetery, 334 W. Slippery Rock St., Chicora.His family suggests donations be made in memory of Oscar C.
