YORK — Police say a man who stole petty cash from a central Pennsylvania church is in custody after leaving his birth certificate behind when he left.

Authorities say 28-year-old Allen Larry Dawes has been extradited to York County to face charges after being arrested earlier this month in New Jersey.

Investigators say Dawes broke into First St. John's Church in York on May 11. Police say Dawes spent the night sleeping in a hallway and ate cereal from a pantry that holds food for the needy.

Officials say Dawes has no fixed address. He is being held on $16,000 bail at York County Prison on charges including burglary and institutional vandalism.

NEW BRIGHTON — Authorities say a teenager drowned while swimming.New Brighton police say 16-year-old Joseph Cleckley was swimming with three other teens in the Beaver River on Saturday evening when he disappeared in the water. Emergency crews were called just before 8 p.m. and found his body less than an hour later about 100 yards upriver from the Fallston Bridge.Sgt. Ron Walton said authorities have answered many calls from the same spot over the years.

NOXEN — Some people collect stamps, some collect coins. In northeastern Pennsylvania they collected rattlesnakes this weekend.Hunters headed to the hills around Noxen in Wyoming County to gather specimens for the annual Rattlesnake Roundup, which started Thursday and ended Sunday. The main attraction is the annual rattlesnake hunt and display of snakes on the carnival grounds.Last year there were 20 rattlers caught, along with 28 nonpoisonous snakes.Anyone bringing in a rattlesnake — hunters are limited to one each — had to pay $25 for a license and adhere to Pennsylvania Game Commission restrictions on snake size at 42 inches. The event is the prime fundraiser for the Noxen Volunteer Fire Company.

GAINES — An accident at a natural gas well in northern Pennsylvania injured two workers who were flown to a hospital for treatment, state officials said.Tioga County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator Dennis Colegrove said what he called an "industrial accident" happened at an Ultra Resources well in Gaines Township on Friday morning."Basically a pipe coupling came apart and two workers were injured," Colegrove said.Hospital officials said they could not release information about their condition.
