The Butler County Symphony Association has announced its concert schedule for the 2010-11 season. The theme for the year will be "Images."

Individual concert themes and dates are:

• "Water," Oct. 9.

The orchestra will play "Savannah River Holiday Overture" by Ron Nelson and "The Moldau" by Bedrich Smetana.

"Four Sea Interludes" by Benjamin Britten will be highlighted with slides by photographer Phil Norton.

Guest artist, glass harpist Jamey Turner, returns to perform on more than 60 water-filled brandy snifters.

• "Earth," Nov. 6.

Celebrate the beauty of the Earth with "Finlandia" by Jean Sibelius with accompanying slides by Phil Norton, as well as Beethoven's "Pastoral Symphony" which portrays the composer's love of the countryside.

Gary Purifoy, BCO's principal oboist, will perform Vaughan William's "Concerto in A minor for Oboe and Strings."

• "Visions of Sugar Plums," Dec. 4.

The program will include Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite," Louis Richman's "Festival of Hanukkah," "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's "Messiah." Eight harps will add to the wintery vision.

• "Romance," Feb. 12, 2011.

Plucking at heartstrings will be the featured performer guitarist Marco Sartor playing "Concierto de Aranjuez" by Joaquin Rodrigo. The program also will include the "Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture" by Mikhail Glinka and Danish composer Carl Nielson's "Symphony No. 3, Symphonia Espansiva."

• "Fire," March 12, 2011.

The orchestra will play Manuel de Falla's "Ritual Fire Dance" while photographer Phil Norton presents images.

Selections from Rodion Shchedrin's "Carmen Suite" will feature percussion and strings.

The guest soloist will be the college age winner of the 32nd annual Young Artist Competition.

• "Space," April 16, 2011.

The ethereal "Clair de Lune" by Debussy, "The Planets" by Gustav Holst, and "Music from Apollo 13" by James Horner grace this concert.

The orchestra will premiere an original composition written for this concert by the winner of its composer competition.

All performances begin at 7:30 p.m. at Butler Intermediate High School, 551 Fairground Hill Road.

Concert goers have the option of selecting a four, five, or six program series.

Season tickets will be available July 1 for past subscribers and Aug. 1 for new subscribers at the symphony office, 259 S. Main St.
