HARRISBURG — State prosecutors are asking for a 12- to 17-year prison sentence for Mike Veon, the former state House Democratic whip convicted of using public resources for political campaigning and other illegal purposes.

Veon's lawyer, Dan Raynak, said Wednesday he plans to recommend that his client be given a sentence that includes probation but no prison time.

Veon and co-defendant Annamarie Perretta-Rosepink are scheduled to be sentenced Friday by Dauphin County Judge Richard Lewis, who presided over the nearly two-month trial that ended in March. In papers filed with the court, prosecutors are seeking a 19- to 24-month prison term for Perretta-Rosepink, who ran Veon's legislative district office in Beaver Falls.

Raynak declined to comment on the prosecution's recommendation before sentencing.

A jury convicted Veon, Perretta-Rosepink and Brett Cott, a former employee of the House Democrats. But the other defendant, former House Democratic information technology supervisor Steve Keefer, was acquitted of all charges.
