Big Thrill 'Ultimate Wave' rolls into Omnimax Theater
PITTSBURGH — Visitors to the Carnegie Science Center can immerse themselves in a surfing adventure with the new tropical film, "The Ultimate Wave Tahiti," set to roll into the Rangos Omnimax Theater on Friday.
From Tahitian traditions to the geography of volcanic mountains, from the marine animals who call the region home to the chaos of ocean storms and the thrill of riding a wave, this 40-minute film will take viewers on a quest to understand the science behind one of Earth's most astounding phenomena.
"The Ultimate Wave Tahiti" features nine-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater and Tahitian surfer Raimana Van Bastolaer as they explore the nature of waves and hunt for the ultimate wave-riding experience.
With Bastolaer as their host, Slater and a group of friends head to Tahiti's famed surf site Teahupo'o. For the Tahitian native, surfing is an ancient Polynesian wave-riding art. For the world champion, it is a modern competitive sport. Regardless, all share a passion for waves.
As the adventure unfolds, the film peers into the hidden forces at work shaping the waves and the islands that lie in their path. Stylized animated segments propel audiences to discover the source of a wave's energy, and then back to Earth to witness the transfer of energy deep into the ocean, the formation of a wave, and its journey across the Pacific.
