Moraine State Park will be the site of a program about historic oil well operation from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The abandoned turn-of-the-last-century oil well and pumping engine that have been restored to working order will be demonstrated by park staff and volunteers. The site is beyond the Forestry & Regional office on Park Road (Old Route 422) off Route 528. "National Get Outdoors Day" will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. The mission is to provide opportunities for children and their families to enjoy healthy activities outdoors. Events offered will include kayaking, biking, a GPS program, fishing and children's activities. Meet at Lakeview Beach, North Shore. Admission is free. Explore off shore is set for 1 p.m. Sunday. This kayaking experience is meant for those who want to get a workout from their paddling. Meet the park naturalist at the Pleasant Valley launch on the South Shore. Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528 near the intersection of Routes 8 and 173, Slippery Rock, hosts children's programs this summer. Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Call 724-794-6011 to confirm programs.
