It's Carnival Time

Ira Mercer of Jefferson Township and his sister, Mara, won in the "prettiest" category for their pet chicken (he's carrying Night Sky) and dogs (in the wagon) for last year's costumed Pet Parade, a perennial favorite at the Saxonburg Carnival. This year's parade of pets is planned for 7 p.m. Monday.
Event starts Monday

SAXONBURG — The annual Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company Fireman's Carnival will start Monday, but now is the time get a ticket.

Tickets bought in advance cost $10 and are good for any day of the 2010 carnival.

"That's a one-year deal," said carnival chairwoman Carol Neubert. "That will be this year and this year only because that's how the carnival is doing it."

Those $10 tickets are available through Sunday at the ambulance office on Horne Avenue and C&S Hardware on Main Street, both in Saxonburg.

After Sunday, tickets will be $20 each.

A coupon for $5 off the $20 price will be available at Saxonburg businesses including Friedman's Freshmarket, C&S Hardware and Kelly's Restaurant. A printable coupon is also available at the volunteer fire company's website at www.svfc.com.

The carnival rides will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. daily.

Matinee hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m. both Wednesday and June 19.

Two bicycles will be given away at each matinee, said Neubert.

Two of the four bikes were donated by Consolidated Communications and the other two came from the volunteer fire company, Neubert said.

The schedule of perennially favorite events at the annual carnival includes:• Pet Parade at 7 p.m. Monday.• Firefighters Water Battle at 7 p.m. and Little Miss Saxonburg pageant at 7:30 p.m., both Tuesday• Junior Miss Saxonburg pageant at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.• Fireman's Parade at 6:30 p.m. June 17.• Miss Saxonburg pageant at 7:30 p.m. June 18.The carnival continues through June 19, the day the winners of the raffles will be drawn. "I've lived in Saxonburg all my life, and I love the carnival and want to keep it going."
