ROCHESTER, Beaver County — A Pennsylvania Turnpike official said a motorist going the wrong way on the highway drove about 10 miles before crashing in a head-on accident.

Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission spokesman Carl DeFebo said officials don't know if anyone was injured in today's crash.

Officials said a man was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Turnpike when state police gave chase. DeFebo said state police also stopped westbound traffic but couldn't stop all cars in the area.

The chase came to an end when the motorist crashed. TV news footage showed a silver car hanging over the center median of the Turnpike against a red truck.

Officials believe the motorist might have caused at least two earlier accidents before the head-on crash. State police still are investigating the accident.
