BICYCLING TIPS
Steve Reynolds, Slippery Rock University's coordinator of Outdoor Adventure and Club Sports and the adviser for the SRU Cycling Club, and Dave Krack, a bicycling enthusiast from Butler, both recommend these tips for bicyclists.
Safety tips• Always wear a helmet.• Never wear iPods or other mp3 players when riding, especially street riding. "You need to hear the traffic," Reynolds said.• Travel with traffic. Bicycles are considered vehicles under Pennsylvania law. Don't ride against traffic or on sidewalks.• Wear cycling gloves that will keep the pressure off nerves in you wrists.• Take care when riding on wet surfaces as tires can slip.
Comfort tips• Carry water or something to drink either in bottles or a special water-carrying backpack.• Take tools and repair kits for flat tires.• Wear sunglasses to avoid bugs or dust in your eyes.• Make sure your bike is in good shape and is fitted for you.• Get a comfortable seat. Seats are now designed with cushioning and special designs for male and female riders.
