A former Carnegie Mellon University professor who pleaded guilty to four drunken driving charges — including three in eight days — will spend 18 months on house arrest.

Fifty-three-year-old Jeffrey Hunker, of Pittsburgh, was sentenced Thursday. A judge also sentenced him to three to six months in jail, but immediately paroled Hunker who had been jailed since Thanksgiving when he smashed into a parked car.

Hunker was still a professor when police arrested him on DUI charges on Aug. 17, 19 and 25, 2008. He is no longer affiliated with the university and once served as computer security director in the Clinton administration. Hunker apologized and said was trying to turn his life around. He was also fined $6,000 and will serve two years' probation after the house arrest.

PITTSBURGH — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has upheld a lower court ruling, rejecting a claim that an Erie-area Congresswoman didn't have enough proper signatures on her nominating petitions.The ruling means freshman U.S. Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper, D-Pa. will remain on the May 18 primary ballot.Fellow Democrat Mel Marin claimed Dahlkemper didn't have the signatures needed.
