ALIQUIPPA — A security guard at a western Pennsylvania elementary school has been suspended after a student's mother reported that he paddled her son.

Aliquippa School District assistant superintendent David Wytiaz says Monday that the district and its private security firm are investigating the incident reported last week at Aliquippa Elementary School.

The boy's mother says her 7-year-old son told claims he was paddled by the guard in the basement after being sent to the office for misbehaving in class. But Wytiaz says, "At this time, nothing suggests a whipping or any physical contact has taken place."

PITTSBURGH — Authorities say a man shot to death in his home over the weekend was apparently not the intended victim of the gunman.Pittsburgh police say the shooter, 34-year-old Virgil Williams, reached inside an open door of the Homewood residence and fired several shots that killed 19-year-old Michael Garnett Jr.But police say another man who witnessed the killing was apparently the target, since he had been in a fight about two weeks earlier with the suspect and the two argued again Saturday before the early morning shooting.
