Butler County's great daily newspaper

Edward W

Hi Edward, I have to admit that I am still against striking, but can understand the teachers needing some sort of bargaining chip. NOT OUR CHILDREN. I hope that someone can come up with a way to bargain without striking that still will have a positive affect for the teachers. I must agree that there are many more issues for the district than just the teachers wages. South Butler is considering a 2 mill hike right now and that is to reduce a deficit created by the teachers retirement system. They are predicting by 2012-13 they will need to increase this fund by 570%! How do you give any raises when you have that to deal with? I'm sure glad I'm not the business manager!!!! My first thought was do I need to get a third job? I don't want to give up my house or move, but how does the average Joe keep up??? I would love to hear some other options not only to settle the teachers contract fairly, but on how to control the rising costs? I sure wish I had the answers!!!! We definitly need reform.
