PITTSBURGH — A fired Pittsburgh police sergeant says he'll try to get his job back now that he's been found not guilty of an assault charge for allegedly slapping his ex-girlfriend so hard he dislocated her jaw.

Allegheny County Judge Tom Flaherty says Tuesday's verdict hinged on testimony of a woman who witnessed the altercation outside 43-year-old Eugene Hlavac Jr.'s home Dec. 18.

The witness testified Monday that Hlavac's ex-girlfriend, Lauren Maughan, was the aggressor. Hlavac has claimed he only defended himself.
