Top 10 dangerous foods behind wheel

Drive-through, fast-food restaurants have caused Americans to learn how to steer with their knees. But downing tacos and coffee while driving can be more life threatening than shark hunting without a boat.

While it's tempting when we're in a hurry, surveys by insurance companies and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate the 10 most dangerous foods to eat while driving are (drum roll please):

10. ChocolateChocolate melts in your hand AND your mouth. Soft chocolate is oily and leaves dark stains on everything you touch.

9. Soft DrinksDriving while drinking leads to spills and chills. Any sudden movement can send your cup flying, leading to sudden movements as we try to grab it before it becomes a sticky, sodden mess.

8. Jelly-Filled DoughnutsIt's impossible to eat a jelly doughnut without some of the center oozing out. If you can make it to work without dipping into the dirty dozen, then you're a better man than I am, Gunga Din.

7. Fried ChickenGrease, grease, grease. Need I say more?

6. Barbecued FoodMy brother James claims he ate a half-rack of ribs while driving. Wish I had a video of that.

5. HamburgersGrease, ketchup, mustard and special sauce make a goopy mess out of your car and your driving abilities.

4. ChiliThe potential for drips and slops down the front of clothing is significant.

3. TacosDifficult enough to eat when motionless, food that disassembles itself into a tossed salad should never be consumed while in any form of motion.

2. Hot SoupMany people drink it like coffee. Go figure.

1. CoffeeThe woman who sued McDonalds for actually heating her coffee learned just how dangerous it is to steer while drinking a hot liquid.
