PITTSBURGH — A severe storm system has left about 53,000 customers in Western Pennsylvania without power today.

The storms hit the Pittsburgh area between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, affecting a total of about 90,000 customers.

Duquesne Light says about 11,200 customers remained without power as of 6 a.m., down from a peak of 36,000 customers lost power in Allegheny and Beaver counties.

Allegheny Power says nearly 41,800 of its customers were still without power today, down from a total of 54,000, most of them in Westmoreland and Washington counties.

Ross Township police say a woman suffered minor injuries when a tree fell on her car and shattered the windshield.

In central Pennsylvania, PP&L Electric says about 3,300 customers lost power when the storm system moved through.
