Demolition begins on fire-ruined 'Plantation Apartments'
Demolition started this morning for the "Plantation Apartments" at the intersection of East Pearl and Monroe streets. The building was heavily damaged by a fire April 6, displacing 10 residents.
Work reportedly was stopped temporarily while a utility crew shut off natural gas service to the structure.
While the residential building had been added to over the years, the original structure was from the Civil War era.
