SRU gets swept in softball
The Slippery Rock University softball team dropped three of four games this weekend.
The Rock split a doubleheader with Millersville Saturday, grabbing the first game 6-5 on a RBI double by Whitney Warmus, before dropping the second game 7-6.
Things got worse on Sunday.
SRU fell 6-2 and 8-2 at home to Edinboro.
The losses dropped The Rock to 19-16 overall and 4-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West.
The Slippery Rock University lacrosse team fell behind visiting Bloomsburg by 10 goals at halftime and could not rally in a 20-7 loss Saturday.Amy Halls scored four goals and added an assist for The Rock (5-7).
Slippery Rock High graduate Ethan Geisler was part of the 1,600-meter relay team at Slippery Rock University that placed first at the SRU Invitational Saturday.In all, The Rock won 12 events at its own invite.Geisler teammed with James Sims, Mason McLaughlin and Dan Hedglin to win the 1,600 relay with a season-best time of 3 minutes, 20.15 seconds.On the women's side, Allison Smith, Amanda Seigworth, Jen Hansen and Kim Stitt posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks Saturday.Smith won the 100-meter hurdles, Seigworth the 400-meter hurdles, Hansen the pole vault and Stitt the triple jump.
Knoch graduate Chelsea Gibson won her No. 4 singles match to help the SRU women's tennis team clinch a PSAC playoff berth with an 8-1 win over Indiana (Pa.).
