GIBSONIA — Police are searching for a man driving a dark blue pickup truck who reportedly tried to abduct a 14-year-old girl outside a department store north of Pittsburgh.

Northern Regional Police say the truck can be seen on surveillance video from a Kohl's store along Route 8 in Richland Township Sunday evening.

Police have released the video in hopes someone might recognize the truck.

Police Chief Robert Amann says the man got out of his truck and told the girl to come with him, saying, "If you don't cooperate, this is gonna get bad."

Police say the girl resisted and that the man left when he saw the girl's mother approaching.

PITTSBURGH — A man awaiting trial on charges he fatally shot three Pittsburgh police officers is due in court for a conference about evidence that may be excluded from his trial and when his attorneys must notify the court if they will pursue an insanity defense.Twenty-three-year-old Richard Poplawski's attorneys are expected to argue today that allegedly racist comments he made should be excluded from evidence. Allegheny County prosecutors contend Poplawski posted information on a white supremacist Web site and used a slur against a black detective after his arrest in the April 4, 2009 shootings.One of the officers Poplawski is accused of killing, Eric Kelly, was black. Kelly and two other officers died responding to a disturbance reported by Poplawski's mother that morning.

PITTSBURGH — Authorities say a Pittsburgh woman faces felony charges after dropping off a missing toddler to police in North Carolina.Pittsburgh police Sgt. Larry Scirotto on Monday said 22-year-old Belinda Boswell will be charged with interfering with the custody of a child in the disappearance of 3-year-old Eyairra Collins.Police say Boswell was a family friend caring for the child for an extended period of time. But the girl's family called police Friday after Boswell began avoiding their phone calls.Investigators say Boswell dropped off the girl to police in Albemarle, N.C., about 45 miles east of Charlotte, on Sunday. The girl is still in the custody of North Carolina child welfare officials.Boswell has not yet been arrested.

TITUSVILLE — The Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle supermarket chain is buying five Western Pennsylvania stores owned by Tops Friendly Markets that were previously part of the bankrupt Penn Traffic Co. chain.Giant Eagle is buying Bi-Lo stores in Johnstown, DuBois, Brookville and St. Marys and a Quality Market store in Titusville.Penn Traffic filed for bankruptcy in November and sold most of its assets to Buffalo, N.Y.-based Tops Friendly Markets in January. Tops then evaluated the stores it acquired and decided to sell five of them to Giant Eagle.The stores are expected to begin changing hands later this month.

WEST MIFFLIN — An airport spokeswoman says a small plane did not slide off a county airport runway near Pittsburgh before it caught fire.JoAnn Jenny, spokeswoman for the Allegheny County Airport Authority, says nobody was hurt in the incident about 12:30 p.m. Monday at the county airport in West Mifflin. West Mifflin is a few miles east of Pittsburgh along the Monongahela River.County dispatchers say initial reports indicated the plane slid off the runway before catching fire. But Jenny says the pilot saw smoke in the cockpit and simply stopped the plane and got out as it caught fire.Jenny says the Beechcraft Bonanza was taxiing when it caught fire.
