I do not condone taping a child's hair. That being said....

I agree parents aren't here to coddle educators but if a parent is contacted regarding issues (which this mother said she was) due to the length of the hair-which is a minor issue as you said, whether it be playing with it, not making eye contact, hiding behind it, etc., then the parent should have taken care of it. Parents and teachers should be on the same team, for the benefit of the child. The dress code for the district does state that appearance should not "present a clear and present danger to the student's health and safety, cause an interference

with work, or create classroom or school disorder." Does appearance include one's hair? I would think that it does in terms of employment. Should school be any different?
