Wendy, Sorry for misinterpreting your comments. You may not feel that way about length of day/length of year that educators are contracted for, but many feel that we don't spend enough time working, and I agree. I feel the length of day is sufficient(7 hours, as a kid's attention span especially in elementary school, doesn't lend itself toward longer days), however, I always wanted the school year to be at least 250 days per year with each group of students. The interruptions that continually plague my lessons can be overwhelming(assemblies, pictures,PA announcements, practice lockdowns, pep rallies,and other social engineering programs).

However each state department of education determines days in session and adding more days exponentially increases costs.

As a side note, I have 2 nieces who attended Butler School District. One is in middle school in honors classes and has received all"A's"every year. The other just graduated,scored a perfect score on the math portion of the SAT and a very high score on the language component. She received a full ride academic scholarship to a private college. I credit my niece for working every night on her lessons, her parents for their unflagging support of her and the school, and most importantly I credit the fine teachers of the Butler School District for providing her an exemplary education.
