ALLENTOWN — An eastern Pennsylvania judge has ruled that a man must face involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of his 8-year-old son, who shot himself with a gun that prosecutors say the father put in a backpack that also contained the child's video games.

Twenty-six-year-old Jose Alvarado of Allentown also faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child and drug counts.

His bail was reduced from $2 million to $150,000.

Detective Glenn Granitz Jr. testified that the 9 mm semiautomatic weapon had a safety feature and a built-in gunlock, but neither was used before the Jan. 8 shooting that killed Jose Alvarado Jr.

HOPEWELL — State police say a trooper shot and killed a man in south central Pennsylvania after he pointed a weapon at authorities during a standoff.The Bedford County coroner pronounced 67-year-old Chester Guyton dead at the scene at the home in Hopewell after the shooting Tuesday.After responding to a call about a "distraught male," state police say they found Guyton threatening to harm himself and others inside his home before he began walking outside in the yard with a weapon.They say troopers had been negotiating with Guyton for 90 minutes when he pointed the weapon.
