CENTER TWP — The state Department of Transportation began work on the Stony Run Bridge along Route 308 and will begin painting road lines across the county Monday.

The Stony Run Bridge carries Route 308 over Stony Run between Elliott Road and Jamisonville Road/Stoney Run Road and is receiving a $1.6 million rehabilitation by Russell Standard of Pittsburgh.

Work on the four-span, continuous plate girder bridge is scheduled for completion in mid-September.

Between now and Aug. 24, a detour will be in effect, taking drivers around the bridge via Routes 8 and 138 before returning to Route 308.

On Monday, road line painting will begin across the five counties covered by PennDOT's District 10, which includes Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana and Jefferson counties.

The annual task repairs damage to lines done by normal wear and weathering, as well as winter plowing and spreading of anti-skid materials.

"We do our interstates first, then roads designated along the National Highway System, like Route 422. Then we move onto the state routes and the quadrant routes," said Harold Swan, a PennDOT spokesman.
