More than 450 Allegheny Power customers are without electricity in the city of Butler.

Doug Colafella, Allegheny Power spokesman, said the outage occurred at about 11:10 a.m., and that crews are looking for the cause somewhere on East Penn Street.

The city's Public Safety building at West New Castle and North Washington streets is currently running on generator power, but it is not affecting calls.

Two city elementary schools, Emily Brittain and Broad Street, are running on emergency generators and students are continuing with their day.

The generators power lights in the hallways, exit signs and other safety measures in the schools. While many classroom lights are dark, Superintendent Ed Fink said there is enough natural daylight to continue instruction.

Students at the schools got a hot lunch at 12:15 p.m. after the day's menu, pizza, was taken to the district's central commissary to be heated and then was delivered to the schools.
