CRANBERRY TWP — Road improvement projects at two major intersections that are expected to improve safety and traffic flow are slated to be completed by fall.

Work on the intersection of Franklin and Peters roads and at the township municipal center/St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church entrance on Rochester Road are both projected to be done by October, according to Jason Kratsas, township director of engineering.

Last year, Cranberry learned it would get about $300,000 in federal funds that was given to the state Department of Transportation to make traffic safety improvements. The projects are estimated to cost about $620,000.

The remainder of the work will be paid by township transportation impact fees collected from developers.

The improvements at the busy Peters/Franklin Road intersection will include the installation of turning lanes, a traffic signal and flashing warning signs on the approach to the intersection.

At the municipal center/St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church entrance on Rochester Road, the intersection will be redesigned to combine the entrances for the center and neighboring church.

The new drive to the municipal center will be designed for a traffic signal that will allow a future connection to Unionville Road.

Kratsas said the intersection also would provide a pedestrian crossing.

He added decorative traffic light poles will be installed in keeping with the township's new streetscape ordinance.
