PENN HILLS — Police in suburban Pittsburgh say thieves in a string of veterinary clinic break-ins are after drugs.

At least four animal hospitals in the Pittsburgh area have been recently burglarized. The latest happened Monday night in Penn Hills.

Police say money was taken but believe the burglars were after drugs to either sell or use to get high. Veterinarians say the anesthetics and painkillers that were taken are dangerous to human users.

NORRISTOWN — Sixties teen pop idol Bobby Rydell has been accepted into a program for nonviolent first-time offenders following a drunk driving charge.Under the terms of the program the 67-year-old Rydell will be on probation for a year and lose his license for two months.Rydell had hits including "Wild One" and "Volare" and appeared in the 1963 movie "Bye Bye Birdie."

DREXEL HILL — Police say a man has been arrested in the theft of a collection plate from a teenage usher at a suburban Philadelphia Roman Catholic church.Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says 22-year-old James Joy was arrested Wednesday on previous traffic warrants. He was later charged with robbery, theft and simple assault in the theft of $350 during Sunday Mass at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church in Drexel Hill.Police said a man wearing a ski mask and sunglasses approached the usher as he was carrying the offering to the rectory and demanded the money.
