Guatemalan police chief, drug czar detained

GUATEMALA CITY -- Guatemala's attorney general says authorities have detained the national police chief and the country's anti-drug czar in a case of stolen cocaine that led to the deaths of five police agents.

Attorney General Amilcar Velasquez says national police chief Baltazar Gonzalez and anti-drug czar Nelly Bonilla and a third, unidentified official were being held for their alleged involvement in the theft of cocaine.

Five agents died in a gunbattle at the time of the March 2009 incident.

Velasquez has not described how the death of the agents was related to the stolen cocaine.
