PITTSBURGH — Authorities identified three young suburban Pittsburgh residents killed when a car plunged off an interstate down a hillside and crashed into a grove of trees.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office said Derek Phillips, 20, of Bethel Park, David Rizzo Jr., 20, of Upper St. Clair and Tara Schulz, 18, of Upper St. Clair were killed when their car failed to negotiate a curve on I-376 at 2 a.m. Sunday just before the entrance to the Fort Pitt tunnels.

State police said the car went off the interstate and plunged about halfway down the wooded hillside, landing with its underside wedged against trees above the Banksville Road commercial district. The 18-year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger were able to get out of the vehicle and call for help.
