HARRISBURG — The chairman of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board says table games like poker and blackjack could be up and running in the state by the Fourth of July.

Board Chairman Gregory C. Fajt says that the new games could be operating on the early end of the six-to-nine-month time frame Gov. Ed Rendell offered when he signed the table gaming legislation last month.

The gaming board on Wednesday issued more temporary regulations for casinos setting up table games, including training requirements for dealers and rules for a number of poker games.

HOUSTON — The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has fined The Meadows Racetrack & Casino near Pittsburgh $48,900 for violations that led the casino to pay $430,000 in false slot machine jackpots this summer.Three Pittsburgh-area men who allegedly manipulated the machine are awaiting trial on fraud charges in Washington County.The fine announced Wednesday includes $6,900 for improperly using a software feature on the machine without state approval and $12,000 for paying a jackpot to someone other than a winning patron. The other $30,000 includes $2,000 fines for each of the 15 days the casino failed to investigate jackpot problems.

PHILADELPHIA — First lady Michelle Obama is set to visit Philadelphia as part of her efforts to curb childhood obesity.The first lady will visit a North Philadelphia elementary school on Friday. Obama will discuss steps the city has taken to address the problem of so-called "food deserts." Those are poor communities where it's hard to find stores with healthy foods.
