Butler County chapter of the North Country Trail hosts a Cherry Pie Hike at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Old Stone House at the intersection of Routes 8, 173 and 528, Slippery Rock. The event combines cherry pie and a winter hike along the North Country Trail to celebrate the birthday of our nation's first president, George Washington. Aaron Cowan, curator of the Old Stone House and a Slippery Rock University history professor, will give a brief presentation called "Beyond the Cherry Tree: George Washington and Early Americans' Complicated Relationship with Nature." Visitors will enjoy complimentary cherry pie and coffee, and have an opportunity to hike the trail. Admission is free, but registration is required. Call 724-256-0674 or 724-445-3315.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528 near the intersection of Routes 8 and 173, Slippery Rock, will host snowshoeing for beginners on snowy Saturdays. Registration is required by calling the center at 724-794-6011.
