SRU hoops swept by Gannon squads
ERIE — It was frigid outside and just as frigid inside for the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team Wednesday night in a 54-53 loss to Gannon University.
The Rock shot 21 percent from the field and 17 percent from 3-point range (3-of-17) in the first half and trailed 32-28 at the break.
The loss dropped SRU (13-9 overall, 2-7 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West) a full three games behind Gannon (10-11, 5-4) for the fourth spot in the conference.
The top four make the PSAC tournament.
The Rock, which has averaged 79.5 points per game this season, has scored just 111 points in its last two games.
Jabril Bailey led SRU with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Women's basketballJulie Molloy scored 16 points to lead all scorers, but the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team fell to undefeated and nationally ranked Gannon University, 63-39.Amanda Mikatavage added 10 points for The Rock (5-17, 2-7), which failed to crack the 40-point mark for the first time since the 2005-06 season.Gannon (25-0, 9-0), which is ranked No. 3 in the Division II national poll, outrebounded SRU 45-25.Gannon led 14-0 after eight minutes of play.
