Because of days missed this week because of the heavy snowfalls, students in the Butler School District will have classes Friday and Monday. Those days had been scheduled as days off.

The next available days to make up lessons are March 16 and 17.

The state requires 180 days of school each year. When classes are canceled because of weather or another emergency, districts are required to reschedule those days to get full state funding.

In the South Butler School District, where a strike had already pushed the end of school to June 21, the school board Wednesday night discussed what to do. It is expected snow makeup days will be scheduled for June 22, 23 and 24. But, the district closed again today.

That might mean events like basketball games and musical practices could be scheduled on Sunday — a rarity, if not a first, in the district.

The school board gave Superintendent Frank Prazenica Jr. the authorization to do whatever is needed in this emergency.
