PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania is shutting down more major interstates as a strong snowstorm brings blizzard conditions to the eastern end of the state.

PennDOT spokesman Richard Kirkpatrick said Interstates 76 and 676 in Philadelphia were shut down at 2 p.m. today. Interstate 476 below the Pennsylvania Turnpike in suburban Philadelphia and Interstate 176 south of Reading also will close.

Gov. Ed Rendell earlier ordered the closures of Interstates 83 and 78 and part of Interstate 81. Rendell said blizzard conditions have made the roads impassable.

Kirkpatrick said the Turnpike and the Northeast Extension remain open.
