PITTSBURGH -- Authorities isay an 8-year-old boy died a day after he was accidentally shot while hunting raccoons with relatives.

State police said Rudy Shetler of Fredonia was hit in the head when a rifle accidentally discharged at about 10:10 p.m. Monday in a wooded area of Delaware Township, Mercer County. He was taken by ambulance to UPMC Horizon Greenville and then flown by helicopter to Children's Hospital.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office says Shetler was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

PITTSBURGH -- Dozens of students from Pittsburgh's Creative and Performing Arts High School are protesting the alleged police beating of a classmate.Nearly 100 students marched Tuesday from the school to city hall. They want a thorough investigation into the Jan. 12 incident.Eighteen-year-old violist Jordan Miles alleges undercover police beat him when he was walking near his mother's house. Pictures taken by his mother show his face covered with bruises, his right eye swollen shut. Miles' mother, Terez Miles, says the three white officers targeted her son because he is black.The officers have been reassigned and put in uniform while the city investigates.

HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania State Police has a new computer system for issuing traffic tickets that officials say improves safety and uses troopers' time more efficiently.The department says issuing tickets takes about half the time it used to, so troopers spend less time exposed to traffic. The new system also lets the state police send citations to district courts electronically.Tickets are now being issued on legal-size thermal paper that's considered less confusing than the old carbon copy tickets.The Pennsylvania State Police Traffic and Criminal Software also provides automatic checks of state and national databases of drivers' license and registration information.

PITTSBURGH -- A nurse working at the Allegheny County Jail is accused of illegally distributing pain killers to inmates.Police say 56-year-old Paul Bohonok of Pittsburgh admitted to distributing more than 350 pills of the drug Ultram to inmates who didn't have a prescription.Investigators arrested Bohonok Tuesday at the jail, where he was a licensed practical nurse working in the medical triage area. Police say Bohonok told them he dispensed the drugs because he considered them a glorified version of an over-the-counter painkiller.Bohonok was arraigned Tuesday night.
