PITTSBURGH — A judge has found a woman guilty but mentally ill for cutting a baby from the womb of a pregnant teenager, killing her.

Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey Manning convicted 40-year-old Andrea Curry-Demus of second-degree murder and kidnapping in the July 2008 death of Kia Johnson.

Prosecutors contended Curry-Demus lured the 18-year-old Johnson to her Wilkinsburg home, bound her, removed the baby and tried to pass it off as her own. The baby survived and is living with Johnson's relatives.

FREDONIA — Police say a 9-year-old boy was accidentally shot while out hunting with relatives. State Police in Mercer County say the boy was raccoon hunting with family members Monday night in Fredonia.Troopers say a rifle accidentally fired, hitting the boy in the upper body. He was flown to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. His condition was not immediately released.

PITTSBURGH — A Western Pennsylvania man whose son accidentally shot and killed his twin brother is back in the United States to face charges related to the boy's death.Michael Lanese, 68, arrived in Pittsburgh Saturday after authorities located him in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Lanese surrendered to FBI agents last week. Investigators say Lanese flew to Vietnam in September and planned to marry there to avoid prosecution in Allegheny County. Lanese didn't show up for his Oct. 13 trial on involuntary manslaughter and other charges for allegedly not securing his weapons.
