Fire damages Jackson Twp. home

JACKSON TWP — Firefighters this morning contained a blaze to the second floor of a brick home on Jo Deener Road.

The house's residents, Jack and Carole Whitehead, were sleeping when the fire broke out at 144 Jo Deener Road. hey escaped safely.

The couple's Labrador retreiver, Bell, also made it out of the building.

Harmony Assistant Fire Chief Dale Hall said the source of the accidental fire might have been electrical in nature and started in either an upstairs closet or a crawl space.

Police Chief Len Keller, acting as the township fire marshal, is investigating the cause.

While the fire was kept from spreading from the second floor, the first floor sustained smoke and water damage.

Hall estimated the damage at $250,000 for structure and contents.

The owners, who are staying with friends, are insured.
