PITTSBURGH — A woman accused of improperly caring for hundreds of cats at a self-styled animal sanctuary was sentenced Friday to 2 years of house arrest, 27 years of probation and must pay $200,000 in restitution.

Linda, Bruno, 47, also was ordered to have no contact with animals, undergo a psychiatric evaluation and participate in treatment.

The restitution is for care given to nearly 400 cats removed in March 2008 from her 29-acre Tiger Ranch Farm.

Bruno pleaded guilty in July to 12 animal cruelty charges and two counts of tampering with records. Prosecutors withdrew more than 500 cruelty counts.

PHILADELPHIA — Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter said he would back legislation to make witness intimidation a federal offense in state cases.Specter held a hearing Friday in Philadelphia to search for answers to what he said is a big problem in many city neighborhoods: witness intimidation.Philadelphia police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said many good citizens live in neighborhoods where criminals are effectively enforcing a "don't snitch" mentality.Two people testified at the hearing whose children were killed before they could testify in criminal cases.
