Ed, you mention higher pay for nurses, engineers, lawyers, and executives NONE of which are paid by taxpayer dollars. Teachers are and therefore "public servants" whether they like it or not. Their pay should reflect the area in which they are working and what those people can afford to pay in taxes. Most people will work in or around where they want to live, therefore the proof that stastically speaking the big dollars don't always bring the best teachers. True in any profession. Some people will relocate, most will not. I'm guessing you think everyone has big screen tv's and new cars, not so at all. And people can shop around for the best prices on those types of items, we don't get to pick what school our kids go to unless we are willing to pay for private school. I come from a long line of teachers. I think they have a tough job especially with all they have to put up with. However, just like any job, if you aren't making what you think you are worth it's time to look for work elsewhere. I know that statement offends teachers, but let's face it that's the way it is in any other profession. I'm all for teachers making a decent living, but they should be in line with what the district residents can afford. I won't rehash the statistics.
