SRU hoop squad 7-0

Maurice Douglas scored 22 points and added eight rebounds as the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team improved to 7-0 with an 89-69 victory over host Salem International University's Joe Manchin Classic.

Michael Evans had 14 points and seven assists, Cecil Brown 12 points and five assists, Maron Brown and Bryen Spriggs 11 points each and Tommy Kelly 10 points, all for The Rock, which held a 53-18 lead at halftime.

Brown was named Most Valuable Player for the tournament, finishing with 29 points and 23 rebounds.

SRU had defeated Ohio State-Newark 86-69 on Friday thanks to an 18-point, 17-rebound performance by Brown and Butler graduate Jade Burka and Andre Tarver adding 12 points each.

SRU outrebounded Ohio State Newark 80-40.

Jen Harpp captured the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9 minutes, 56.7 seconds at the Golden Flash Gala at Kent State University Saturday.Abby Michaelian finished fourth in the event while Kaela Snyder was third in the 800.On the men's side, top performances included Cameron Daugherty placing third in the pole vault by clearing 15 feet, 5 inches and Phil Rector claiming fifth in the 800.
