PITTSBURGH — A suburban Pittsburgh officer who was gunned down in his patrol car this week was remembered today as an upbeat, consummate professional.

More than 500 mourners, hundreds of them fellow police officers from across the region, filled a Pittsburgh church for the funeral of Penn Hills police Officer Michael Crawshaw on Friday.

Penn Hills Chief Howard Burton said Crawshaw was a dedicated officer who showed eagerness for his work.

Crawshaw's family did not speak at the funeral. Outside, police cruisers parked two abreast for roughly a half-mile to accommodate all the mourners.

Authorities say Crawshaw was shot and killed Sunday night by 32-year-old Ronald Robinson. Police say Robinson had just killed another man over a drug debt when he shot Crawshaw as he awaited backup.
