PITTSBURGH — A Western Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial on charges he tried to rob a gas station and hit the night manager with his car as he fled.

Frank Pekular of Aliquippa has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. His preliminary hearing was held Tuesday.

Authorities say he tried to rob a BP station in Pittsburgh on Nov. 28 but was foiled by the clerk. Night manager Walter Wetzel gave chase but police say he was struck by Pekular's car.

Police say Wetzel had a gun but did not fire it. Wetzel remains hospitalized.

Wetzel shot and killed a robbery suspect at the station in 2007. The district attorney ruled it was a justifiable homicide.
