ARNOLD — A 10-year-old boy was shot in the leg while skateboarding in a small town just outside Pittsburgh.

Toriano Wilson was shot once in the leg around 4:45 p.m. Friday near his home in Arnold. That's according to his aunt.

Police said they received information that the shot or shots were fired from the second- or third-floor window of a home nearby.

Authorities surrounded the home, but didn't find anybody inside. They are now searching for suspects.

The boy was flown to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for treatment. Police said the shot broke a large bone in his thigh.

HARRISBURG — Prospective employees at a central Pennsylvania hospital chain will now be tested for nicotine when they apply for jobs.Beginning Jan. 1, Susquehanna Health System won't be hiring smokers. The system consists of Williamsport, Divine Providence and Muncy Valley hospitals.The Pennsylvania Department of Health said the system is the first in the state to ban the hiring of smokers.Susquehanna Health spokeswoman Tracy Witter said all job applicants will have to pass a nicotine screening, in addition to the current drug test.

WASHINGTON — Authorities said a man died days after police subdued him with a stun gun.The Washington County coroner said Ronald Petruney, 49, died just before 7 a.m. Saturday at Washington Hospital.Coroner Tim Warco said an autopsy will be done to determine the cause and manner of death.Officials said Petruney went into cardiac arrest Tuesday after he was stunned by police.Police say officers had been trying to help Petruney when they found him in a confused state of mind, but he became combative.Police said Petruney swung at one officer and bit another at least three times. Police filed aggravated assault and other charges against him.

MIDDLETOWN — A small amount of radiation was detected in a reactor building at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in central Pennsylvania.About 150 employees were sent home after the radiation was detected Saturday afternoon, but officials said there is no public health risk.Exelon Nuclear spokeswoman Beth Archer said investigators are searching for the cause, but the radiation was quickly contained.Radiological surveys showed the contamination was confined to surfaces inside the containment building.The unit has been shut down for refueling and maintenance since Oct. 26. The company hopes to resume activities Sunday.Officials are checking employees who had been working in the building for possible unusual radiation exposure.A partial meltdown occurred in Three Mile Island's Unit 2 reactor in March 1979.
