Second arrest made in robbery
Butler police this morning charged a second man in connection with a robbery Monday in the city.
Police today charged Scott Leroy Bailey, 37, of Butler with conspiracy, accusing him of driving the getaway car in that robbery at the E-Z Stop on North Main Street.
A former Butler man is accused of robbing that store and another city convenience store in less than 40 hours.
An anonymous tip Monday afternoon, which came five hours after the second robbery, led police to a West North Street apartment building where officers arrested 33-year-old Gerald A. Simpson of Pittsburgh.
He later admitted to robbing the 7-Eleven on Pillow Street on Saturday evening and the E-Z Stop on Monday morning, said investigating officer Sgt. David Dalcamo.
Simpson is in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail on two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy.
Police believe the suspect only got away with $40 or $50 from the E-Z Stop.
Monday's crime matched the same manner in which the 7-Eleven on Pillow Street was robbed just after 7 p.m. Saturday.
In that case, the suspect is believed to have gotten $380, court documents said.
