CLAIRTON — The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office said smoke and carbon monoxide poisoning killed three children trapped in an early morning fire in a town house.

Authorities said sisters Rachel Finn, 9, and Deausha Faulk, 6, died in their home early Friday, along with 2-year-old Michael Zigler, who was visiting the family. Police said they were trapped in an upstairs bedroom at the Century Town Homes complex in Clairton.

Police and firefighters were unable to reach the children because of the heat. The blaze apparently started in the kitchen, and the cause remains under investigation but is not considered suspicious. Four other family members, including the girls' mother and sister, were able to escape from the home.

DARLINGTON — Authorities said a collision between a car and a pickup truck killed four people and injured a fifth.Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi said the car traveling at a high speed north on Route 51 collided with a Darlington-bound pickup on Route 168 shortly before midnight Saturday in South Beaver Township.Teri Tatalovich-Rossi said the three men in the small compact were killed. They were Louis Young IV, 23, Bryan Atkinson, 23, and Joshua Tate, 22, all of Beaver Falls. She said Tate was wearing a seat belt but the others were thrown from the vehicle. She declined to say who authorities believe was driving.In the pickup, she said, the accident killed Jessica Demarco, 25, also of Beaver Falls, who was wearing a seat belt. Her husband, Daniel Demarco, was flown to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition Sunday evening.

GREENSBURG — Seton Hill University will honor a New York City philanthropist during a Holocaust education conference named for her.Ethel LeFrak will receive the Elizabeth Ann Seton Woman of Courage Award on Wednesday at the private, Catholic university in Greensburg.LeFrak is a longtime supporter of the school and the National Catholic Center for Holocaust Education, which is sponsoring the Ethel LeFrak Holocaust Education Conference that began Sunday.LeFrak donated $750,000 to fund the triennial conference and scholarships for those studying the Holocaust. She is the widow of Samuel LeFrak, former chairman of the LeFrak Organization, a building firm.
