As stated by others, the clinic IS neighbors caring for neighbors through volunteerism. It IS NOT a government program.It receives no tax money. It was started by Jean Purvis and other citizens. It received seed money from Butler Memorial Hospital and the hospital provides ongoing financial and in kind support (THAT is what makes BMH different than UPMC and big-money medicine...hear about Bradford and Aliquippa?). In addition there are many other financial and non-financial supporters of the clinic throughout the community. It is fundamentally for the working poor who do not get benefits through their employer and/or cannot afford insurance. These people make too much to qualify for Medicaid and are too young to meet Medicare eligibility.
