My son goes to WPSD a school for the deaf in Pittsburgh. I received an email dated for the 13th from a school administrator telling me that his hair style which is a mohawk is going to cause him to be pulled from class to sit in the principals office, because it is against school policy. He does not wear it spiked with gel or hairspray and he grooms it down when attending school. He has also worn this hairstyle to school in the past, and nothing has ever been said before.It isnt like it is a weapon being brought to school. There are many students in our area with mohawks and my son looks up to these kids. some play football for the local school districts. However they still say it needs to be cut. I am not getting his haircut, It is a phase that some boys go through at one point or another. Some people say I am fighting a losing battle it is the point it is a haircut and my child goes to school to learn not show off his haircut or his clothes.

To pull a child from class over a haircut, pretty much a crime I think. I sit back and think well what about the other kids with their hairstyles long hair spiked hair are you going to make them get there hair cut too?

My family and I are going to go through the channels to have the policy changed and putting out a petition for parents to sign for the policy change

In order to have the policy changed we have to wait until the spring when they meet to make any policy changes.
