JEFFERSON TWP — Graduation for Knoch High School is expected to be June 18.

The South Butler School District calendar committee Wednesday night proposed a revised school calendar that accounts for the 12 days classes were canceled because of the teacher strike that ended Wednesday.

State law required teachers to return to the classroom Wednesday so that 180 days of instruction could be completed by June 15. The committee, however, decided make the week between Christmas and New Year a vacation week.

That extended the school year to June 18.

Committee chairwoman and board member Debra Miller said the board considered scheduling classes for three days in that December week, but eventually decided against it.

The recommendation by the committee will be voted on next week by the school board.

One change, however, was approved Wednesday by the school board. Monday, which is Columbus Day, was scheduled to be a teacher in-service day. Now, it will be a class day.

Teacher in-service days have been moved to the end of the school year. Under the revised calendar teachers will finish the year on June 25.
